Underwater Science Laboratory

Sharing Public Health 058 with Underwater Science's office space, the Center for Underwater Science has a laboratory for artifact analysis and conservation. Artifacts from submerged cultural resources sites are conserved and cataloged. Almost all artifacts are currently on loan to the Center from various domestic and international research agencies, to be returned to their respective organization upon completion of conservation and IU research.

Pool 194

Confined water recreational and scientific diver training is conducted in the Wildurmuth Intramural Center's Pool 194. Pool 194 is Indiana University's original pool, opening with the building in 1917. Pool 194 is the oldest indoor swimming pool in the state of Indiana and has been at the center of scuba diving activities on campus ince 1963.

While other events and classes occasionally make use of Pool 194, the pool is primarily utilized by the Academic Diving Program and Center for Underwater Science's courses. With over 20 scuba pool sessions taking place in the pool throughout the week, there is seldom a time when there are not divers underwater. Pool 194 is equipped with a full service dive locker to provide students with quality equipment for the diving courses.

Room 192

The Center for Underwater Science and Academic Diving Program conduct training and classroom work in the new Academic Diving Program facility: Room 192. In this multi-use educational facility, faculty and students can participate in equipment workshops, emergency medical training, scientific diving theory, and recreational diving classes.
