Indiana University scuba diving students have the opportunity to pursue Investigations of the J.D. Marshall and Muskegon (aka Peerless) Shipwreck Preserves in Indiana's waters of Lake Michigan. This course is designed to prepare participants with knowledge and skills necessary towards earning qualification as an Indiana University Scientific Diver. This course provides comprehensive principles for safe and efficient diving during scientific investigations and surveys. Underwater techniques for data collection in several academic areas and personal diving skills will be emphasized during open water training.
Students must provide round trip transportation to Michigan City, IN and food for the duration of the trip. The Center for Underwater Sciences will cover lodging and dive charters. Students are responsible for 3 credit hours of tuition plus a $150.00 course fee.
Please contact Jenna Baelz (jbaelz@iu.edu) for further course or diving information and Sarah Muckerheide (smmucker@iu.edu) for information about active research.
